Conservative peer Michael Lord hit out at Remainer Lord Bilimoria during a fiery debate on the procedures surrounding Labour MP Yvette Cooper’s no deal Brexit Bill.
The Bill was debated in the House of Lords after Brexiteer peers attempted to filibuster and use the time to discuss procedural issues in hope of preventing the Bill from being fast-tracked in order to block a no deal Brexit on April 12.
It became toxic when Lord Framlingham accused Lord Bilimoria.
“The truth is (to ram the Bill through in one day), it’s part of a plot to stop us leaving the European Union. I’m not afraid to mention that because as your Lord Bilimoria just intervened on somebody in the debate because he spends night and day now working all the time to stop us leaving the EU.
“I find it very hard in this Chamber to take remarks from people when I know what their motives are. But a huge amount of dishonesty over the last two and a half years, not least from the gentleman (Lord Bilimoria) who is burbling from the backbenchers.”
In response, Lord Bilimoria hit back and said: “I thank the Lord, but is the Lord accusing me of dishonesty?”
