Chinese President Xi Jinping kicked off a large-scale military naval parade marking the 70th anniversary of the creation of China's navy, in the port city of Qingdao on Tuesday.
China exhibited for the first time its new aircraft carrier, the 'Liaoning'. In total, more than 30 warships were displayed, among them: submarines, destroyers, frigates, landing warships and supporting vessels.
Thirty-nine naval aircrafts also participated at the parade, including reconnaissance planes, fighters, carrier fighters and helicopters.
Delegations from 60 countries and naval vessels from more than 10 countries attended the celebrations. Warships from 13 countries also sailed to Chinese waters, including Russia's Admiral Gorshkov-class frigate, which was welcomed by Russia's Ambassador to China Andrey Denisov at Qingdao port on Sunday.
The parade is seen as an opportunity to bolster the country's naval reach and ties with other naval powers.
