Nigeria's Supreme Military Council Meets on the Eve of the Collapse of Biafra | January 9th 1970 Footage of a meeting of the Supreme Military Council on Friday, January 9th 1970.

It was held amid reports that the secessionist state of Biafra was on the verge of collapse.

Held at Dodan Barracks in Lagos, the meeting was chaired by the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Yakubu Gowon and attended by the heads of the Navy, Army and Air Force, as well as by state governors.

General Gowon sent messages of congratulations to the leaders of the three federal army divisions which were besieging the territory still controlled by the Biafrans.

1. Colonel Musa Usman, Governor of the North-Eastern State

2. Lt. Colonel Abba Kyari, Governor of the North-Central State

3. Colonel U.J. Esuene, Governor of the South-Eastern State

4. Rear Admiral Joseph Wey, Chief of Staff Supreme Headquarters & Chief of the Naval Staff.

5. Lt. Commander Alfred Diete-Spiff , Governor of Rivers State.

6. Alhaji Kam Salem, Inspector-General of Police.

7. Colonel Ogbemudia, Governor of Mid-West State.

8. Colonel Emmanuel Ikwe, Commander of the Nigerian Air Force
