After hearing that the AZ 347 overpass had opened, I grabbed my GoPro and went and filmed it. This has supposedly been in the works for years, allowing traffic leaving or entering the southern half of the city of Maricopa or the Ak-Chin Indian Reservation to go over the tracks that see traffic from Amtrak and freight trains all day and night.
The overpass opened ahead of schedule, in a feat for the city and state. It officially opened Monday, July 15th to traffic. That's when this video was taken over the entire length of the new alignment, from Alterra Pkwy/Desert Cedars Dr to Hathaway Ave.
Construction continues on side streets to connect them to the new road but that is expected to be mostly - if not entirely - completed by October.
