Comprehensive Eye Exams. During a Comprehensive Eye exam, eye doctors will use various tests to examine the attributes of the eye, in an effort to fully evaluate its vision, and health. These tests may include the following.
Visual Acuity test, which measures the sharpness of your vision.
Color blindness test, checks for any issues when distinguishing between various colors.
Cover test, used to indicate if a person suffers from strabismus, or amblyopia.
ocular motility test, determines how well your eyes can follow a moving object.
stereopsis tests; used to determine depth perception issues.
Retinoscopy, provides an approximation for eyeglass prescriptions.
Refraction tests, used to gain more exact eyeglass prescription measurements.
Slit lamp tests, examine the structure, and health of the eyes.
Glaucoma tests, are used to test the pressure within the eye.
and a visual field test, determines if blind spots exist in a person's field of vision.
Depending on the number of tests a doctor decides to provide, it could take an hour or more to complete a comprehensive eye exam.
