A GP’s wife who stole £600,000 from his practice has been jailed. Carolyn Lightwing, 56, cooked the books of the family’s three surgeries while working as practice manager, a court heard. She moved into an £800,000 home with husband David and spent £148,000 on school fees. Lightwing gave cash to family members and even booked a £63,000 cruise to Canada. Mr Lightwing, who had cut his hours due to health problems, had no idea she was stealing from Elvington Medical Practice in York. The three-year con saw her raid accounts using false invoices to drugs’ suppliers, then pay the cash to herself, York crown court heard. She was caught after staff found an account with a previously healthy balance was in the red.
