• Welcome back to the JRPG Weekly Update: Have I got news for you this week!
• Coming up we’re going to talk about some long awaited release dates, and a Town without a name finally got a little one, but before we get to that we’ve got today’s top headline!
Headlines:
• Lead Producer of DA4 leaving Bioware after 12 years
o Fernando Melo, senior producer for DA Origins and DA II
o Fernando stated he thinks DA4 may be end up being the definitive DA
o However this occurs amid rumors of staff having to rework DA4 mid-production into “Anthem but with Dragons” would indicate otherwise
Localization & Release Date Updates:
• Persona 5 Royal finally getting an official launch window in the West
o In Japan the game is launching on Halloween this year
o The West will be getting the game in Spring of 2020
o Why we didn’t get an actual date though? I have a theory…
• Grandia HD Remaster PC launch window revealed
o Grandia HD Collection released on Friday including Grandia and Grandia 2 HD on Nintendo Switch
o Grandia 2 HD is already on PC, but Grandia 1 isn’t yet on Steam
o However the game is planned to release in November. No date yet though. I wonder why? Hmm…
Other News:
• GameFreak trademarks Little Town Hero
o Almost certain this is the official title for their previously announced
o “Town” working title announced back in September last year
o On the subject of Game Freak, this raises an interesting question,
Why are they making a new game Now?
Are they becoming less relevant to the Pokémon scene?
• PlayAsia has opened up preorders for Final Fantasy VIII Remastered, and are taking preorders for US and European versions of the games
o This would appear to indicate that we will be getting physical copies of Final Fantasy VIII Remastered
o The games are currently up for preorder for about $60 US
o The game is expected to launch on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, all three versions are up for preorder
o Expected launch window is Late 2019
SuperDerek News:
• Last week in SuperDerek news, I got my hands on a copy of the Grandia HD Collection and went to town for nearly 7 hours over on Twitch, the archive is available on my secondary channel.
• Following that I spent the next day putting together an impressions video, talking about my time with those games. It’s completely spoiler-free, so be sure to check it out if you’re wondering if the Grandia HD Collection is worth the $40 price tag.
• Speaking of Twitch, I’m nearly finished with Star Ocean 2 I think, and plan to take a look at Shadows of Adam next, so be sure to follow me over there if you’re interested in that indie RPG!
