CLOSE The Record's Art Stapleton breaks down the Giants decision to bench Eli Manning and play Daniel Jones at QB. USA TODAYNew York Jets quarterback Trevor Siemian is out for the season after suffering an ankle injury in Monday night's loss to the Cleveland Browns. Jets coach Adam Gase said that Siemian will require season-ending surgery to repair ligament damage in the coming days. Siemian, who was signed as the Jets' backup quarterback in the offseason, took over when Sam Darnold was diagnosed with mononucleosis last week. He ended up making only six throws before getting hurt. Luke Falk, who was on the practice squad as recently as Monday morning, replaces Siemian and will start Sunday when the Jets travel to play the New England Patriots. It will be Falk's first career start. He played the final three quarters on Monday night, making his NFL debut and completing 20-of-25 passes for 198 yards. Gase said that Falk will be the starter until Darnold returns from his illness. The timetable for Darnold's recovery remains unclear. Gase said Darnold returned to the team's practice facility on Tuesday and is "feeling better." But it's up to doctors to determine the next steps. In the meantime, the Jets are working to add another quarterback before Sunday's game against the Patriots. Gase said he and general manager Joe Douglas have already had conversations about bringing in a quarterback who is familiar with Gase's offense. Brock Osweiler is available and could be an option. Gase coached him in Denver (2012-14) and Miami (2018). Email: vasqueza@northjersey.com FacebookTwitterGoogle+LinkedInNFL power rankings: Week 2 Fullscreen Posted!A link has been posted to your Facebook feed. 32.
