Brazil has deployed 44 thousand troops to the Amazon rainforest, to tackle the unprecedented fires that are burning there. The fires are predominantly burning in western and central Brazil, but are also reaching Bolivia. Tens of thousands of outbreaks have been recorded this summer, meaning the Amazon is burning at a record rate.
Some have been caused by farmers clearing their land for cattle ranching. Earlier this month, Brazil declared a state of emergency in the region.
