Meteorologist Simon Partridge brought the news that Wednesday will consist of dry, chilly weather, with a hint of fog in some parts. He said: “There will be lots of clear skies as we head through the evening overnight. “We could see a little bit of mist and fog forming most likely along the England and Wales border. “But, through the early hours of the morning we'll see cloud move in across parts of Scotland. “This will introduce a little bit of light rain across the far north. “Come first thing in the morning that cloud will hold temperatures up over Scotland. “Further south particularly out in the countryside you can see temperatures down into the low single figures. “This means possibly just a touch of frost for some of us come first thing in the morning.” The frost means a cold and bright start to the day, with most places hardly leaving low single figures, some areas as cold as 4C (39F).  The colder weather means some rainfall in Scotland, with heavy downpours expected to hit northern parts as far as Lerwick. Mr Partridge said: “It is a cold amber right start to the day for much of England Wales. “Northern Ireland Scotland still cloudy with some outbreaks rain that will continue through the day.” Elsewhere though, skies will remain clear without any sign of rain.   Although cloud cover in some parts of south east England may bring spells of light showers but nothing major. As the day progresses any frost that tinged the UK will melt away, with temperatures expected to rise into the late teens by mid-afternoon. Light winds will make it feel generally cooler, though highs of up to 22C (71F) will hit London and Southampton. Heading into the evening, the weather will turn more unpredictable and unsettled. Mr Partridge said: “As we head into the overnight period from Wednesday into Thursday cloud and outbreaks of rain just holding on across Scotland. “Elsewhere, fine and dry with plenty of clear skies. “Light winds once again will allow temperatures to fall away across much of the country. “Again, the odd spot of frost is possible come first thing in the morning Trending  “Scotland with that extra cloud remains that little bit milder so Thursday starts off on a very similar note to Wednesday.” Over the weekend Britain experienced an “Indian Summer”, where temperatures reached 26C (78F) in some parts. The new cold weather front, however, comes as winter approaches, with temperatures expected to fall from this point onwards.
