Heritage Railway Signal Aspect Repeater Electro-Mechanical Device

Heritage Railway Signal Aspect Repeater Electro-Mechanical Device This is an old Heritage Signal Aspect Repeater Electro-Mechanical Device used till 1970 , when these were gradually replaced. When Railways started, the station master had to move out of his cabin to check the aspect of the signals before receiving a train or dispatching a train. As the signals were located at the periphery of the station limits, more than 800-1000m away, it meant getting out of the cabin and going near the signal posts and then moving back to the station masters cabin. This delayed the trains.

An ingenious methods was thought around 1930s, when these eletromechical devices were invented , which replicated the aspect of the signals in the cabin of the station master himself.

With the up-gradation of panel Interlocking, Electronic Interlocking and Route Relay Interlocking, these devices died a natural death.

One such living Heritage device can be found at Haldibari station of North Frontier Railway, on the way to Bangladesh , which is shortly being connected through rail connectivity.
