PASIGHAT, Oct 13: While visiting the Sibiamukh Range of D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary (DEWS) on Friday, a team of officials led by Divisional Forest Officer, D. Ering Wildlife Sanctuary, Tasang Taga along with Addl. Dy. Commissioner (HQ), Tatdo Borang, Dy. Director of School Education, Jongge Yirang, Dy. Superintendent of Police, Tatak, Adi Baane Kebang Secretary General, Okom Yosung, Dr. Dilip Dutta and others.
On visiting the sanctuary, ADC, Tatdo Borang and others felt the need for urgent protection of the sanctuary by publication participation so that, open animal sighting could be possible in the sanctuary. Cruising over the river Siang by boat the team reached the Sanctuary and necessitated for a concerted effort in preserving and conserving the rich flora & fauna of the sanctuary besides maintaining aquatic animals like fishes, dolphins etc which would attract more tourists in near days which directly or indirectly would become an eco-tourism hotspot.
Later, a formal meeting was also held at Seram village community hall under Mebo Sub-Division which was chaired by ADC Tatdo Borang. In the meeting DFO Wildlife Tasang Taga briefed the villagers and GB about the importance of Wildlife Week and how the wildlife tourism will enhance the eco-tourism of the area thereby creating self employment for many in the fringe villages. Seram village Gaon Burah, Kalom Lego, village Secretary, Amit Modi and former ASM Manong Ratan also felt the need for early conservation and protection of wildlife in the region and sought the department help in development eco-tourism so that, the village unemployed youths could be engaged in the eco-tourism activities.
ADC Tatdo Borang, DDSE Jongge Yirang, ABK Secy. General, Okom Yosung, Dr. D. Dutta, DSP Tatak and State Wildlife Board Member, M. Tayeng also spoke on the need to protect the rich flora & fauna of the sanctuary. Borang and Yirang laid emphasized on arrangement of alternative means of animal rearing for meat purposes by creating/opening piggery, gottery, duckery firms etc besides fish ponds so that, dependency on Wildlife Sanctuary for meat and hunting could be reduced by the villagers. However, all the speakers strongly urged the department heads and field staffs not to show any leniency in dealing with hunters and poachers.
As a part of initiative to bring more greenery in the sanctuary, ADC Tatdo Borang showed his willingness to visit the sanctuary again to plant more trees including the banyan trees (Sirot/Rotne in Adi) to attract back the bird species like that of Hornbills.
