Look, first off, I love Elon Musk, he’s one of the most inspiring visionaries of our time - but I have to disagree with him on this π I learned this through bitter experience…
There is a dark side to the relentless pursuit of a vision.
In 2008 my obsession with hard work and hustle finally took its toll on my physical and mental health. π€
I believed that I could sacrifice my sleep, my social life, even my family life in pursuit of success.
But I got it back to front. π€¦π½
How could I consider myself a success without my health, without my peace of mind, without spending time with my kids? ❌
That’s why I was so happy to see an interview with @AriannaHuff coming out to highlight the dangers of hard work and hustle.
It’s time to dispel this malicious myth that you need to work every single hour of the day, work yourself into the ground and work like a dog if you want to be a success.
Listen...your success is defined by you. ππΌYou need to know that.
If you wanted to be a good mother more than anything else and you become a good mother - you’re a success.
If you wanted to be a teacher and you went on to become a teacher - you’re a success.
If you achieve what YOU set out to achieve - you’re a success.
You don’t HAVE to be a millionaire, you don’t HAVE to be a genius.
You HAVE to be YOU.
And know this - happiness is a far greater metric for success than money or power.
And I’m telling you from experience that, at least for me, obsessive hard work and hustle will not necessarily make you happy.
Finding meaningful ways to spend your time on this planet however, just might. ⌛
Who do you think is closer to the truth? Elon or Arianna?
