Grow Potatoes Chemical Growth Suppressant, is it just a US thing?

Grow Potatoes Chemical Growth Suppressant, is it just a US thing? Freshly harvested potatoes needs a period of dormancy before they will start to re grow. If you use shop bought potatoes that are relatively new, and you plant them, they are more than likely to sit dormant in the ground for months before they start to grow. We are never sure just how new or old shop bought potatoes are when we buy them. So, If we plan to plant them its best to purchase them some months before we plan to plant them that way we can be sure that the potatoes have had a period of dormancy.
This natural dormancy period means that potatoes will store well with just a minimum of provision.
These potatoes were harvested by me over 3 months ago. They haven't been sprayed with any chemicals and they haven't started to re grow and I haven't done anything to prevent them re growing, just kept them in my dry, dark, cool, ventilated garage. The point I am trying to make is that without any chemical being sprayed, these potatoes have not started to re grow so why would anybody spray potatoes with growth retardant chemicals?
The only videos that I can find that push the idea that shop bought potatoes are sprayed with growth inhibitor are all on US channels. Is that the case? Are US Potatoes really sprayed with growth inhibitor to extend shelf life? You tell me.
I can tell you that here in the UK I have been using shop bought potatoes to grow potatoes over a number of years and all have produced good potato plants.
So. If it's your intention to grow potatoes using shop bought potatoes start setting aside potatoes a few months before you intend to plant them and good luck.
