Nalanda University looted in 1190's by Turkish Muslims & achieved most number of converts in India.

Nalanda University was established in 427 AD, touted as the most praised in ancient times. It had scholars from all over India & the world. Housing a large collection of books on; literature, astrology, medicine and astronomy to name a few. In 1190's a Turkish Muslim invader looted India and destroyed Nalanda University. It is believed that during his reign Islam achieved the most number of converts in India. The library housed over 9 million books, which burned for 3 months after the invaders set fire to it. The destroyed the Monasteries and killed all the teachers and students. The Monks that did escaped grabbed some manuscripts and ran, so there are some books saved during the ransacking. The great lost to India and humanity for this horrific event can not be put into words.
