R142A (5) Train at 170th Street

Taken 11/23/19.

Due to track maintenance, (5) train service was suspended between 149th Street - Grand Concourse and East 180th Street. Since there was also work being done on the uptown local platform at 138th Street - Grand Concourse, uptown (4) and (5) trains were running on the express track, meaning that (5) trains couldn't terminate at 149th Street. Manhattan bound (2) trains were also terminating at 149th Street - Grand Concourse for the weekend.

As a result, (5) trains were set up to Burnside Avenue for the weekend. Uptown trains ran express from 149th Street to Burnside Avenue, and downtown trains ran local. There isn't a program for the (5) to Burnside, so all of the destination signs were signed to 149th Street, and conductors made manual announcements north of 149th Street. All (5) trains this weekend used Jerome Yard R142s and R142As from the (4) line.
