HYANNIS — Watch as a Barnstable Police patrolman suddenly comes on the air shortly after 2:00 a.m. announcing he was in hot pursuit of a wanted suspect. The patrolman can be heard running after a 40-year-old man who was wanted for violation of an abuse prevention order. The rain was pouring down and there was initially some confusion as the quiet airwaves abruptly came alive with officers rushing to assist.
In the neighboring Town, Yarmouth Police Officers were also jarred into action by the commotion, with several units moving toward the town line just in case their brothers needed them.
As you will hear in the following HN Video, officers had a tough time understanding the patrolman’s initial radio transmissions. But moments into the chase officers finally discerned the patrolman’s location and began converging on the area of Scudder Ave and Atwood Road.
Then, as quickly as it all started up, things abruptly quieted down again and the chase seemingly went cold. The suspect apparently had managed to evade capture. But then once again, after a period of about 10 to 15 minutes, the patrolman who initiated the pursuit suddenly announced he had just found the man hiding underneath a blue pickup truck at the corner of Scudder Ave and Atwood Road.
The following footage highlights the chase audio and officers finally stuffing the wanted man into the back of a Barnstable Police squad car…
HN will provide official updates and details as they become available.
