Having Parrots As Pets In Your Apartment (What You Need To Know)

If you are considering having parrots as pets you'll want to make sure that everything in their room is safe for them. You'll want to put some toys on shelves for them to play with, and put a few perches around the room.

Unless, of course you're intending on allowing your birds to fly free anywhere in your house. That’s pretty much just allowing them to use your whole house as a very big cage.

Depending on how close you get with your birds, your parrots may prefer your shoulder or whatever perch is nearest to you in your home. Just be conscious of not leaving things out that they might want to chew.

For instance, if you have parrots as pets, you might need to bird-proof your entertainment center a little if you leave them alone loose in your home all day.

Also you might find it necessary to use an alternate door to enter and exist other than your front door. You might need to go in and out via your garage, for example.

When you keep parrots as pets it’s actually kind of fun to step into your home and suddenly have a bird plop on your shoulder the instant you enter. Your birds will know when you're coming home and wait for your arrival.

If you do decide to have parrots as pets, its good idea to allow them to free to fly around your house. Just don’t let them fly outside. And remember, parrots are a LOT of work. They’re messy - both in eating and pooping. They’re noisy. They demand your attention, and not all pet-sitters can deal with them. So just keep these thhings in mind if you decide on getting any parrots as pets.
