Note: The following video depicts a specific configuration of the notebook. The same removal and replacement procedures apply to all configurations of the notebook.
Before you begin: Remove the optical drive (if installed), base enclosure, battery, wireless module, fan, and RJ-45 door.
Removal:
IMPORTANT: Make careful note of the routing of all cables connected to the system board for later replacement.
Peel back the retention tape and disconnect the display panel cable from its connector on the system board.
Disconnect the rear speaker cable from its connector on the system board.
Remove the retention tape and disconnect the power connector cable from its connector on the system board.
Remove the power connector cable from the routing channel on the system board.
Disconnect the front speaker cable from its connector on the system board.
Using minimal force, lift the locking bar up on the card reader board ZIF connector and disconnect the card reader board ribbon cable from the system board.
CAUTION! Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
Using a flat, non-metallic tool, carefully remove the RTC battery from the adhesive that secures it to the top cover.
Remove the RTC battery cable from the routing channel on the top cover.
Using minimal force, lift the locking bar up on the fingerprint reader board ZIF connector and disconnect the fingerprint reader board ribbon cable from the system board.
CAUTION! Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
Using minimal force, lift the locking bar up on the touchpad board ZIF connector and disconnect the touchpad board ribbon cable from the system board.
CAUTION! Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
Using minimal force, lift the locking bar up on the keyboard light ZIF connector and disconnect the keyboard light ribbon cable from the system board.
CAUTION! Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
Using minimal force, lift the locking bar up on the LED board ZIF connector and disconnect the LED board ribbon cable from the system board.
CAUTION! Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
Using minimal force, lift the locking bar up on the keyboard ZIF connector and disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable from the system board.
CAUTION! Use care to prevent damaging the ZIF connector and ribbon cable.
Remove the two 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the system board to the top cover.
Lift the left edge of the system board off of the alignment pins and slide the external connectors out of the cut outs in the top cover.
Remove the system board.
Replacement:
Note: Before installing a new system board, remove the following from the old system board and install on the new system board:
Heat Sink
Memory Board(s)
Solid State Drive
RTC Battery
