The figures from BabyCentre show it's been quite a year for mums and dads taking inspiration from musical films. And while it's yet to feature in the top 100 monikers, it seems the new Lion King movie has had quite the impact on some families. The name Simba has been registered for the first time, while the number of children named Nalas - the name of Simba's friend in the hit movie - has quadrupled. They're not the only ones that could have been inspired by the year's musical films. Queen fans may have taken inspiration from the Bohemian Rhapsody biopic as Freddie remained a steadfast top 10 favourite and Brian continued its surprising rise outside the top 100. Another musical biopic, Rocketman, could be behind the reason for Elton appearing in BabyCentre registrations for the first time. Bernie (Taupin, Elton’s manager) was also on the rise, along with Taran (Egerton, the lead actor), Sheila and Ivy, Elton’s mum and grandmother. And Nala isn't the only lioness to make an appearance. Names from England's Lionesses have also been rising in popularity, including Lucy (Bronze), Ellen (White) and Karen (Carney, Farley and Walker), while Fara (Williams), Jill (Scott) and Kim (Little) all appeared for the first time this year. Parents also looked to Scottish players Erin (Cuthbert), Lana (Clelland) and Fiona (Brown), and some of the better-known American soccer players Megan (Rapinoe) and Carli (Lloyd). The figures come from tens of thousands of parents visiting the parenting website BabyCentre to register their baby name choices over the year. BabyCentre then collects all the data and uses it to update its top 100 chart of names, reflecting the most popular monikers for girls and boys of 2019. Olivia and Muhammad top the charts for the third year in a row. Sophia and Ava take second and third spot, with the latter knocking Amelia down a place to number four. For the boys, Noah comes in second and Leo in third, knocking Oliver down and out of the top three for the first time in nine years. A few new names have crept into the top 100 too. For girls it's Nur, Hallie, Delilah, Leah, Myla, Penny and Ariana, while for boys the new ones are Kian, Yusuf, Kayden, Ahmad, Myles, Connor, Matteo, Ibrahim, Evan, Jason, Leon and Levi. Girls 1.
