Back in 2003 Maserati introduced their single-marque championship, "Trofeo Maserati", with the introduction of the 4200GT Trofeo. It was powered by a Ferrari 4.2-litre V8 engine with a power of 413 hp. In 2005 they unveiled the Gransport, basically an upgraded 4200GT, and the Trofeo version too. During the same year, a new change in the GT3 rules paved the way to the eventual competing in the FIA GT championships and which led to the development of the Trofeo Light in order to have a Maserati for the FIA GT3 class. The dry weight of the car is around 1,150kg and the V8 engine is now producing 430hp at 7,000 rpm. The gearbox is a 6-speed "Cambiocorsa".
