Whale shark in extraordinary 'thank you' to fishermen who freed it from rope | whale shark rescue A whale shark has been filmed swishing its tail in thanks to a fisherman who freed it after it was caught in rope.

Footage shows the plankton-eating shark going up to the boat seemingly looking for help off the coast of Bintulu on the island of Borneo, Malaysia.

The heart-warming clip has been viewed over 100,000 times on Facebook by the “Malaysia Animal Association”.

Fishermen then spotted that the shark had rope caught around its body restricting its movement and took out a hooked pole to bring it closer so they could remove it.

The shark seemed happy to let the fishermen use a cleaver to cut the rope as it continued to swim alongside.

After it was freed, the filter-feeding carpet shark, the largest known fish species swam away swishing its tail several times.

The fishermen can be seen also saying goodbye to the whale shark as it headed off.

The shark can be seen swimming next to the boat for a while as it apparently was looking for help.
Zaidi Suhaili, 55, who took the video told The Borneo Post said it seemed the shark was asking for help.

He said: “I never thought that the video would go viral.

“Still all of us felt satisfied being able to save the whale shark since it is considered an endangered species.

“When the shark approached our boat and didn’t seem to want to leave it was as if it was asking for help.”
