10. Elite Roman Villas in Egypt
In July 2019, archaeologists reported an impressive find! Roman ruins in the historic city of Alexandria!! Along with the ruins were some extremely well preserved mosaics, considered a masterpiece of Classical era art.
9. Ancient Strip Mall
If you think shopping at the mall is a thing of the modern age, think again! Teenagers have probably been hanging out in malls for thousands of years!! In the summer of 2013, archeologists found the ruins of a Greek portico along the Aegean Sea. A once-bustling space, the seaside discovery is similar to today’s strip malls, with seven rooms spread across 130 feet of ancient real estate.
8. Ancient Ruins in Australian Desert
A team of archaeologists working for the Australian National University uncovered a number of tombs and artifacts of an ancient empire that was previously not known to historians. Surprise!! It is located in Alice Springs, Australia by the sandstone rock formation of Uluru. This pre-colonial city dates back more than 1,500 years.
7. Egypt’s Sunken City
Off the coast of the Nile Delta, Marine archaeologists discovered the remains of an ancient temple, docks and boats in the submerged city of Heracleion. Similar to the sunken city of Atlantis, which was always believed to be nothing more than a legend, Herecleoin was lost to history and everyone had forgotten where it was! Thonis-Heracleion as it was known in ancient times, was a bustling port before the founding of Alexandria.

Now, modern technology known as Lidar (Light Detection and Ranging) has helped is to uncover thousands of new structures built by the Maya. And they didn’t even have to risk getting malaria.

Like many ancient sites, the White City has been a legend in Honduras since the 16th century. Said to hold untold riches, full of gold in a paradise just like Eden, for several centuries, many explorers and adventurers were on the quest to find the legendary city. Hernan Cortes had many credible reports from other indigenous groups that the city was real.
4. Ancient Mosque in Israel
In the sands of Rahat, Israel, a 1200-year-old mosque has been unearthed, and is now being celebrated as one of the earliest known mosques in the world. The holy site was discovered when archaeologists were surveying the area before construction work was to begin on a new neighborhood. Believed to be dated to the 7th to 8th centuries, the rare find is now being called one of the oldest Islamic holy sites in the world.
3. Underground City in Turkey
With more than 200 underground cities and villages, the Cappadocia region in Turkey has long been designated a World Heritage site. A new discovery, however, could be one of the most extraordinary finds to date. An unknown subterranean metropolis was discovered during an urban renewal project in the area. Workers were demolishing several hundred buildings to prepare for a new construction when they found a network of honeycombed cave entrances, tunnels and hand-carved chambers.

During a 2-week Excavation in June 2019, a team of archaeologists made a discovery of one of the oldest tombs at Carrowmore in Ireland. Dating back to around 3600 BC, the discovery made during the excavation included circular earthen monuments that date back to between 4000 and 1500 years ago, in the Bronze and Iron Ages.
1. Ancient Relics Under Hotel Site
Construction on a new Virgin Hotel being planned in Edinburgh has been delayed by a year after the discovery of ancient relics. As building commenced, ancient structures dating back as far as the 10th century were discovered. Among the structures were many ancient objects including drinking vessels, shoes, jewelry, tools, knives, and perhaps most gruesome - a human skull.
