When I was very young I had this question in my mind does fish ever sleep? but I forgot about this question for a very long time until a few days ago I visited an aquarium in midnight and I found fishes are still swimming around and this question came back to me, before explaining that consider subscribing to this channel and hit the bell button so that you will never miss any videos like this. Characteristics of Sleep varies from species to species for humans it lying down closing eyelid and go to a state which has reduced sense and reduced body motion, but in the case of horses they sleep by standing, these sleeping characters are evolved to avoid predators and to avoid other danger during sleep. For us humans, we are sleeping under the safety of our home so we can sleep like nothing is going to happen.
But for fishes things are a little different. They have no eyelids also they have to keep moving to compensate for the flow of water, for dolphins only half of the brain sleeps at a time the other half work to keep the dolphin to swim and to breathe. Some types of whales have found to be sleeping by keeping their body vertical and motionless almost all species of fishes show sighs of sleep like reduced mobility, swim within a safer/darker place. Most other species don't sleep for a long time like humans they sleep several small intervals throughout a day. This sleeping characterizes are so that we usually will not be able to recognize a fish is sleeping or awake. So fish do sleep but not the way we might imagine
