Goa Government has lost around ₹ 52 Cr road tax revenue during the month of Oct-DEC 2019. Government had reduced Road tax for this period by 50%, which almost doubled the sale of four wheelers and minimum growth in two wheelers sale. Four wheeler sales showed a growth of 81% during this period. Growth in sale has brought revenue of ₹ 52.82 Cr into the State treasury, however, it is also a loss of ₹52.82 Cr as tax was collected on 50% reduced rate. Sources say that auto dealers have systematically managed to clear their BS4 stock during this period, as Union Government has announced that BS4 vehicles will not be allowed to be sold from April 2020. Increased sale in Oct-Dec also indicates that there will be low sale in State during Jan-March 2020 as people have already purchased vehicles during 50% reduced road tax regime.
