So I want to talk a little today about The importance of having high prices in your office. A lot of practice management gurus and experts that teach their clients the benefits of keeping your fees low so you can see a high volume and the benefits are tons of referrals will tell you that setting your prices high will eventually cut down on your referrals. So I just want to talk about that for a minute. For the "high price kills referral theory to be correct that would mean that all high priced businesses would have poor referrals. Hmmm. I don't think that's true. So that would mean that my super-high priced orthopedist as well as the super high priced plastic surgeons across the street from me don’t get any referrals? In addition. That would mean that high-priced stores like Neiman Marcus or Nordstrums or Rolex? Or any of the other businesses on Madison avenue in NYC must, somehow, be finding a way to run their businesses 100% absolutely Referral-Free!
And I guess marketing gurus like Frank Kern and Russel Brunson who charge as high as $17,000 a day just to talk and strategize with these guys don't get any referrals?
I don't think so.
Look, you and Iknow that’s not true. And before you run wild with the old, “but Chiropractic is different” bullshit, it’s not so don't go there. Fundamentally — all businesses are the same. Before we get to some specific about all this, allow me to go on the record and say..Who Cares?
For example... Let’s say you raise your prices and make people comply. You build the practice you like to work in and you make a ton of money. But, NO ONE REFERRS!!!!
SO WHAT!! Who cares. You'll still have your dream practice with noone referring! It doesn't matter Just keep marketing for new ones. It’s that simple.
Why on earth would you want a “referral practice” when it’s filled with the wrong people anyway? Why not just continue marketing and get what you want which are people that are willing to pay your price to see you
And if you lower your price and accept people on their terms your gonna be unsatisfied and you'll fill your office with patients you won't like and you won't make as much money as you could and should.
Why?
Because like refers like. The patients that don’t respect you will refer family and friends that walk all over you. Cheap-skates will refer cheap-skates. That’s just the way it works. You will have a perpetual referral nightmare on your hands!!!
Think about this: Do you really want to establish yourself and be known as the “cheap doctor?” Think about it…I sure don't
But here’s where it gets good: If you choose not to be a coward and stick to your guns, charge high prices and only accept patients on your terms…
those patients Will Refer More... and they'll refer other patients that are Just Like Themselves!
Will you get as many as you got because you were cheap and let them tell you what to do? Maybe not. But you don’t need as many. Remember – they are worth more. So, once again, you work less and make more while treating only the patients you enjoy.
I’ll say it again: LIKE REFERS LIKE.
If you want cheap patients that tell you how to run your practice and you hate to treat – accept them and they will fill your practice will more just like themselves.
Almost every time I go to a chiropractic seminar someone in the crowd almost always has their hand raised, saying something to the effect that they have a practice filled with patients that are cheap, lazy, stupid, won’t listen to them, don’t respect them etc. Basically, filled with patients they hate. blah blah blah it's always the same
But my response is ALWAYS the same to those chiropractors…
“Who Brought Them There?” Who Attracted Them??
Who brought them in your practice and who accepted them for care? And, if you don’t like them, why the heck don’t you change them?
