In this video we test a football that got banned a few weeks ago, to see what is wrong with it.
The Puma La Liga Winter ball was only used for one matchday before it was withdrawn because of complaints, primarily from fans but also from some players who claimed they did not see the ball clearly.
People said that the darker pink color was less distinguishable than previous Hi-Vis balls, and that it would be better to use the regular La Liga ball which is white in color.
However, could there be another reason as to why the ball was banned? From experience, this ball moves very unexpectedly in the air when trying to perform knuckleballs, and it is not unlikely that some goalkeepers have complained about the movement of the ball.
This is just speculation, and it should not be possible as the ball is supposed to be the excact same as the regular La Liga matchball (OMB) which has not received any official complaints.
The official match ball kind of reminds us of the infamous Jabulani / Speedcell from the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Like the Jabulani, it also seems a bit lighter than other matchballs, as it really travels very fast and can dip a lot too.
Could this replace the rare 500 $/£/€ football from 2010, as the ULTIMATE ball for knuckleballs?
Many of the greatest players in the world have used this ball without complaining, for example Messi, Benzema, Modric, Griezmann, Joao Felix, Vinicius, Bale, Marcelo, Suarez and all the other players from the Spanish League.
They have scored many amazing goals with this ball; longshots, freekicks, solo runs and satisfying tiki taka goals, so it is definitely a top quality football, which also shows in the FIFA Approved rating.
But then again, the issue was visibility, not performance.
What do you guys think of the football? Did you see it properly in the video, or was the visibility an issue?
