INGREDIENTS
3 medium apples, peeled cored and diced
1/2 cup of golden raisins
1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup of light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
1 teaspoon of cinnamon, plus 1/4 teaspoon
2 tablespoons of granulated sugar
6 sheets of filo pastry, thawed
1 cup of unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
-----------------------------
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat the oven at 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl combine the apples, raisins, lemon juice, brown sugar, salt, nutmeg and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and toss to combine.
In a small bowl combine the remaining 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon and the granulated sugar and set aside.
On a parchment lined baking sheet, lay out one sheet of filo.
Brush with butter and stack another filo sheet on top.
Continue stacking the sheets of filo, brushing each one with butter.
Spoon the filling vertically down on the left hand side of the stacks of filo.
Fold both the top and bottom edges of the filo over the filling to cover about 2 inches.
Roll the dough up horizontally from the bottom edge to enclose the filling.
Brush the strudel with the remaining butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the strudel is puffed and golden brown.
Let cool before serving.
And voila!
The delightful Apple Strudel.
I hope you're enjoying a wonderful and prosperous holiday season.
