Shona has been in a coma since Boxing Day after being shot at Christmas by Derek Milligan during his gun rampage. While David took to the stand to testify at rapist Josh Tucker's trial, Shona was taken for another scan to see if she had any brain activity. When David spotted worried Nick taking a call, he realised it was about Shona and he insisted he has to leave for the hospital. He said: "I'm not doing this anymore. My wife is in hospital in coma. I should be with her not stood here answering stupid questions." David immediately rushed to the hospital and was told by a doctor that they were planning to remove Shona’s breathing tube in the hope she could now breathe by herself. Nick and Gail looked very worried when the doctor could not guarantee that Shona would be able to breathe by herself again. In emotional scenes, Nick told his brother that he needed to think of the quality of life Shona would have. I know it's hard, but if Shona is unresponsive, you’re going to have some decisions to make." Dismissing his worries, David replied: "No I won't. She's gonna be fine. We're gonna walk out here together". Coronation Street viewers are pleading with show bosses to let Shona live. Taking to Twitter , one heartbroken fan said: "Shona better not die, please wake up soon" "Omg stop leaving us hanging with Shona I can't take it," added another. A third said: "So heartbreaking seeing Shona in a coma." "Nick, it is too soon to talk about that. When my husband was in a coma I seemed to be the only one with hope, but he only lasted about a day! I truly want Shona to pull through," said a fourth. Shona ended up in a coma after being shot by Derek during his Christmas Day rampage. She was hit by a bullet in the stomach while hiding inside a massive present in the Winter Wonderland.
